Future Champions Belo Horizonte 2010 Draw Made

The groups for the Future Champions Belo Horizonte 2010 Tournment were drawn at a packed event held at SOCCEREX on 22 November. The prestigious U17 club Tournament will be held in Belo Horizonte from the 13th to the 19th of December 2010.

The Draw of the twelve teams took place at the Minas Gerais stand at SOCCEREX in Rio de Janeiro with a number of football personalities and legends in attendance, including Carlos Alberto (Captain of the 1970 World Cup winning Brasilian National team), Phil Thompson (former Captain of Liverpool FC and England) and Alcino Rocha from the Ministry of Sport. The club representatives of Cruzeiro FC (Valdir Barbosa and Roger Galvao) as well as those from Clube Atletico Mineiro (Romulo Righi and Marcelo Machado) were also present, along with the President of the 2014 Belo Horizonte Local Organizing Committee, Tiago Lacerda and Marcelo Pedroso from Embratur.

  • We had a wonderful football and cultural experience in Gauteng. The tournament and activities were very well organized and we found everyone involved extremely helpful and accommodating. We have all returned home with fantastic memories of our time in South Africa, both on and off the pitch, and have made many new friends as a result of the trip. Bringing teams from dozens of different countries provided our boys exposure to cultural diversity they only read about in textbooks. It’s amazing how sport can be the cultural link that provides the opportunity to interact with each other and discover that our global community is a bit smaller than they realized. Over and above the football, the players are also exposed to life-skills courses and HIV/AIDS awareness that could end up saving their lives in the future.
