The 2013/14 Future Players project kicks off

Johannesburg, Thursday, 3rd October 2013 – The 2014 Future Players Talent Search will get under way this weekend when over a thousand budding football stars from the Tshwane South region are set to try and catch the eye of the judges at the Rosina Sedibane School this Saturday (5 October 2013).

The talent identification programme forms part of the 2014 Future Champions Gauteng event that has become one of the leading Under-17 tournaments on the global football calendar.

It is run in conjunction with the Gauteng Provincial Government, where youngsters not only get to test their football ability, but also receive life-skills training as well.

Over 10 000 boys and girls will try out through the course of the 2014 Future Players Talent Search with the aim of setting promising young football stars on the path to a professional career in the game.

A total of 20 coaches will put the learners through their five different skills tests on Saturday, before deciding who has the talent to advance to the next round of the talent search.

The Future Players initiative is open to youngsters aged 13 to 16, and will have trials at centers around the province from this weekend and leading up to the big reveal of who will be the 2014 Future Players Talent Search winner in March next year.

All learners who take part will have a 45-minute life-skills discussion that is presented by representatives of Grassroot Soccer’s ‘Skillz’ programme which teaches about living a healthy, risk-free life.

Each set of trials for the 2014 Future Players Talent Search will get under way at 09h00 and finish at 15h00.

The best youngsters from the 15 district trials will be chosen for the finals on March 29, 2014, at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto.
